BirdSoc SG at Festival of Biodiversity 2025

Witnessing the growing appreciation of biodiversity in Singapore, particularly among youth, has been a constant source of inspiration to us throughout our work. This year’s Festival of Biodiversity was a reminder of just how broad the nature community in Singapore has grown.

The event was held on 31 May and 1 June at the Central Library. We were privileged to join other nature groups in sharing more about our research, outreach, and conservation work with the community. This year’s FOB was hosted by Minister for National Development Chee Hong Tat, whom we had the pleasure of meeting at our booth on Saturday. Along with Minister of State for National Development Alvin Tan, who also stopped by our booth, we hope to continue working closely with government agencies like NParks to advance conservation of Singapore’s avifauna. We also managed to thank the outgoing Minister for National Development Desmond Lee for his support for our relatively new Society.

We introduced new stuff at FOB this year as well! Feathers are what separate birds from other animals – our new feather boards were a big draw, highlighting the intricacies of even the most plain-looking of birds. We also developed a fun booth game for people to practice their bird identification, and our merchandise was on sale in-person for the first time!

You’ll certainly see the feathers (maybe with even more variety) and merchandise again at our future events, so do catch us then!

Thanks for joining us this past weekend – it was great to see many familiar faces and also meet many enthusiastic new birders and future birders!
