How can I contribute?

Our work

The Bird Society of Singapore is committed to providing high-quality resources for the community, with our target audience ranging from casual birdwatchers to scientists and conservationists. Our resources include the Birds of Singapore website and Singapore Bird Database that contain various in-depth details about the avifauna of Singapore. We also conduct numerous outreach events such as talks, walks and booths. In addition, our members attend various engagement sessions for conservation planning.

Submit your records to us!

Our work depends on citizen science data just like most other bird research, and one of the key pillars of BirdSoc SG is our Singapore Bird Database. The database contains precise information on local birds that require special attention, called Review Species. If you encounter any birds from the Review Species list, we would appreciate a submission through our portal. Feel free to get in touch with us if you suspect that you found a bird in this list but are unsure of its identification as well.

Come work with us!

We are an NGO fully run by volunteers with a keen interest to contribute to the community; we essentially operate like a working group. Our resources are produced during our free time in between work, classes and life, and we make sure to keep them fully and freely available to everybody. That also means that while our team is full of birdy ideas, not all of them can be executed without burning ourselves out. If you are keen to contribute articles/photos or have project ideas, please get in touch with us! We have the strongest bird expertise in Singapore and would love to work with you as a team.

We don’t run ads and we’d love to get your help!

We are a fully volunteer driven organisation and our work is primarily funded by membership fees and donations. Our numerous online platforms aim to make resources more accessible to everybody but come at a cost. We also hope to purchase equipment such as binoculars to enhance the experiences for our event participants; we currently loan our personal ones if they are available.

Donation FAQs

How do I know that my money is not being misused?

As a Society registered under the Registrar of Societies, we conform to the Societies Act. Our Society’s expenditures will be reported during our Annual General Meeting and we are subjected to Financial Audits.

Is my donation tax deductible?

As the Bird Society of Singapore is not a registered Charity, donations to us are not tax deductible.

Can I get a receipt for my donation?

When a money transfer is made, you will receive an electronic receipt from the bank. We will also be happy to provide you a BirdSoc SG receipt. Please get in touch with us with your full name and transaction number. Additionally, please get in touch with us if you are keen on donating a large sum of money.

Your donations will play a crucial role in helping us continue our mission to serve the community. We can together make the birdwatching scene in Singapore a better place and work towards the protection of our feathered friends.
