BirdSoc SG at Festival of Biodiversity 2024

Singapore has a remarkable diversity of biodiversity despite its small size, including the over 400 bird species that either reside in or visit the nation. Yet much of these flora and fauna continue to be underappreciated. A key pillar of our Society’s activity is outreach, and a big part of our focus is to widen the community’s interest in birdwatching. Together with many other esteemed nature groups in Singapore, the Bird Society of Singapore participated in the Festival of Biodiversity 2024 from 25 to 26 May that was organised at One Punggol by the National Parks Board in collaboration with the Biodiversity Roundtable.

The event was graced by the presence of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Minister for National Development Desmond Lee, who share with us a deep respect and appreciation for our local biodiversity. At our booth we were given the opportunity to showcase our various resources for birdwatchers and researchers alike, the events we run to bring birdwatching to more people, as well as some of the conservation issues facing our local avifauna today.

We hope you enjoyed visiting our booth and managed to learn a new thing or two. For our regular readers, thanks for the support so far, and for those of you who have just gotten to learn about BirdSoc SG from this event, welcome to birdwatching and we’re sure you’ll find our many resources useful!!

We’d like to thank President Tharman and Minister Desmond for visiting our booth, NParks and the Biodiversity Roundtable for inviting us to the event, Yen Yi from the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum for lending us the bird specimens that were on display at our booth, and to everyone who dropped by! Happy birding and see you all at the next event 😊
