An oil spill on 14 June in the Singapore Strait impacted several birds that depend on marine and coastal habitats. This brief statement outlines our suggestions for how the general public can best help protect birds affected by the oil spill. Above all, we suggest that members of the public do not attempt to rescue the birds themselves, and instead, contact those who can provide the specialised assistance that is required.

Every October to November, a wave of birds of prey (also known as “raptors”) pass through Singapore’s airspace to keep us birdwatchers excited. One of the best places in the nation to observe this phenomenon is along the Southern Ridges, and the Bird Society of Singapore just concluded our second instalment of our Henderson Waves raptor watch!

The Bird Society of Singapore (BirdSoc SG) held its official Launch Event on 27 August 2023 at the Central Public Library. Featuring opening remarks from Dr. Shawn Lum, Senior Lecturer at the NTU Asian School of the Environment, as well as a series of talks from our founding members, our event was well-attended not only by senior figures from Singapore’s leading nature groups and representatives from government agencies, but also by members of our local birding community.
